What To Look For In Animal Repellent

An animal repellent is designed to deter various animals from a particular area. Animal repellents are used to keep animals away from people, plants, objects and even other animals.

Animals are attuned to certain things such as scents that they avoid in their natural environment. Many animal repellents are made with this in mind and use these scents or substances to repel creatures. Some animals are deterred by the scent of a particular predator’s urine such as tiger urine. Many animal repellents use chemical substances to mimic the scent of tiger urine, which can be quite effective. Other animals which are naturally feared and deter other animals are coyotes, foxes, wolves and bobcats. Manufacturers use chemical substances that smell like the odors these creatures make to repel animals such as moose, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, moles, mice and other rodents.

Varieties Of Animal Repellent

Besides chemically designed animal repellents, there are other methods used to keep animals away and protect people’s land and gardens. Sometimes people use animal repellents like electrified or barbed wire fences. These are measures used to repel predatory animals that attack livestock. Of course these measures can be used to either keep animals like predators out or livestock in. There are also animal repellents designed in the form of high-frequency whistles. These whistles are used on vehicles to keep deer away when traveling on the highway. Similar repellent devices are sometimes used to keep certain rodents and insects away.

How Effective Is Animal Repellent

I suspect that most of us only imagine insect repellents when thinking about deterring pests. The truth is though that animal repellent can be just as effective in repelling certain animals as insect repellent is effective in repelling certain bugs. Also many of these repelling methods do so without causing harm to other animals or people.

There are all manner of animal repellents made nowadays to target specific problem creatures but while a general animal repellent may work for one animal, it may not be so effective at repelling other pests in the area. However it can also be difficult to design animal repellents that drive away just the targeted animals without affecting others.
