There are several types of deer repellent on the market today. Why would you want to use a deer repellent? Well, people use deer repellents to keep these animals out of their gardens and off their property.

Deer tend to get into people’s gardens and chew on plants, trees, shrubs, vegetables and grass: a real torment for homeowners. An effective deer repellent can take care of this problem and make working on your garden more enjoyable.

One type of repellent on the market today that may help is called Planskydd. This product is believed to be very effective as a deer repellent. Planskydd was originally made in Sweden but is now manufactured in the USA also.

Plantskydd Deer Repellent

Plantskydd is made from 100% natural ingredients with the main ingredient being dried blood from porcine and/or bovine animals. This particular deer repellent is considered to be an environmentally safe product and is recognized as such by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Plantskydd contains absolutely no synthetic additive and when used according to the manufacturer’s directions, is considered to be neither toxic nor harmful to animals or the environment. Plantskydd works as a deer repellent by giving off an odor that deer associate with predators.

Tree Guard Deer Repellent

Something else that may help is a product called Tree Guard. The Tree Guard deer repellent contains an ingredient called Bitrex which has an extremely bitter taste: Bitrex is a substance that deer quickly learn to avoid. Tree Guard Deer Repellent sticks very well to plant surfaces and has a latex formulation. This latex coating is great in the rain since it repels water… and so Tree Guard is a deer repellent that is effective for an entire season!

Consequently, there is no need to reapply the Tree Guard Deer Repellent: only new growth needs to be treated with it. However, it should be noted that although this product is an effective deer repellent, it shouldn’t be used on vegetables because the taste will definitely be affected by the bitterness of the Bitrex. One final thing about Tree Guard is that although it repels deer with its scent, humans actually find Tree Guard to have a pleasant scent!

Ok… these are just two examples of effective deer repellents that work well. There are many others on the market that work as well as Tree Guard and Plantskydd.
