Why Does ThermaCELL Work?

The active ingredient in ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent is called allethrin. Allethrin belongs to a group of chemicals known as pyrethroids (which are synthetic analogs of pyrethrin for the scientists out there!). Pyrethrin is a naturally occurring insecticide which originates in various types of chrysanthemums: indeed these flowers are referred to as pyrethrum flowers.

It has been discovered that mosquitoes really dislike allethrin and so this is why ThermaCELL is so effective. The ThermaCELL system utilizes allethrin repelling any mosquitoes in the surrounding area. The amount of allethrin used in the ThermaCELL mat is not enough to kill the mosquitoes but definitely enough to keep them away so you can enjoy your space without the annoyance of these pesky insects.

ThermaCELL is odorless and it’s also cordless. It is said to be around 98% effective in protecting people from mosquitoes and as a result offers protection from annoying and potentially dangerous mosquito bites. It can also be used anywhere: in your backyard when you are outside barbecuing, or when you are camping, hunting, fishing or gardening, and can even be taken with you to concerts in the park or to your kid’s soccer game.
