For many people moths are a real problem. These tormenting little critters tend to worm their way into cupboards in people’s kitchens and reproduce… creating a mini empire of moths! That’s just one reason why moth repellent can be a real help.
Moths love to get into open food packages and containers and can even work their way into plastic bags. Once these pests invade the kitchen cupboards and build a community, they can then make their way into other rooms in the house and lay eggs in any nooks and crannies they can find in walls and between shelves. In this way, moths have a way of taking over your space. So… can a moth repellent get rid of these creatures?
What Moth Repellents Are Available?
Perhaps the most popular moth repellent is the moth trap. This type of moth repellent can be bought at many stores. When looking for an effective moth trap, it is essential to search for one that contains an ingredient called pheromone, which lures the moths to the trap. This brand of moth repellent can be bought in non-toxic forms, which many people prefer, especially when there are small children in the home.
There are also sensible steps you can take maybe not to repel moths but to make your home less desirable, such as storing food in air-tight containers. But it seems that no matter how hard you might try to repel moths, they tend to show up anyway.
Natural Moth Repellents
People also have problems with moths eating their clothes… in fact they’ll eat any fabric that takes their fancy from curtains to towels. These little pests really can get anywhere. One recommendation to help here is using cedar wood as a moth repellent. Placing pieces of cedar wood in closets, trunks and dresser drawers seems to keep the moths away.
Another moth repellent that some people swear by is a dark brown bean called a tonka bean. Placing a few tonka beans in small muslin bags and putting them in with your clothes, appears to work as a moth repellent and also adds a nice aroma. Lavender is also believed to be an effective moth repellent. Of course if you can put up with the smell, you could also use moth balls… although I for one cannot! Finding a good moth repellent, one that works for you, may require testing different suggestions and ideas.
Many people have problems with moth infestation and so it might be a good idea to ask friends or family members what they use.
